Samsung Galaxy S6 Specs Rumors: Tech Titan Drops Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Chip?
New rumors regarding the release date, specs, features and price of the much-awaited Samsung Galaxy S6 have been circulating on the Internet for quite some time now. If latest rumors are to be believed that the South Korean tech titan has dropped the Snapdragon 810 chip from the upcoming handset, which will possibly be a major blow to Qualcomm.
According to Latin Post, earlier reports said that Samsung Galaxy S6 would come in two models with two different hardware specifications. Samsung's strategy has been to release one model running on its own Sxynos SoC for the Korean and other markets and another running on Qualcomm Snapdragon system for the United States and other western markets. This was what happened with the Samsung Galaxy S4, S5 and several Galaxy Note handsets earlier.
However, this does not seem to be the case this time, as there are rumors that Samsung will be completely dropping the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC from the upcoming flagship smartphone.
While neither Samsung nor Qualcomm is yet to make any comment regarding the rumor, it originated in a reliable financial news source - Bloomberg News, which quoted "people with direct knowledge of the matter" to report the news on Wednesday.
Interestingly enough, the report says that while Qualcomm, the largest chipmaker for mobile devices globally, lost much worth on the European markets immediately the news became public, Samsung, which happens to be world's the second-largest mobile chipmaker, witnessed an instant growth in its domestic Korean market.
It is believed that Samsung has decided to drop the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 from the upcoming Galaxy S6 owing to the poor performance of the chipset. Precisely speaking, it overheated when tested for the Galaxy S6.
Moreover, there are reports that, as far as hardware and software for its devices are concerned, Samsung is now eager to get independence from third-party companies. Recently, the company achieved great success in its own RAM technology for mobile and has also been trying to push "Tizen" - Samsung's alternative to the Android OS.
Meanwhile, new reports claim that the Samsung Galaxy S6 is likely to be released sometime in March ad the device will come with IP 67 water and dust resistance attributes. It is expected to boast a 16-megapixel or 20-megapixel camera, have a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED QHD display, run on Android 5 Lollipop, and one variant of the device may incorporate a single or dual curved touchscreen "Edge" similar to the one in the Galaxy Note Edge.
