Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Google Nexus 6 Comparison: Review of Features and Specs

Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Google Nexus 6 is definitely bigger, but does that mean it has better features and specs? Below is a hardware and software comparison of these two devices from rival companies.

While the Samsung Galaxy S5 is already out on the market, Google plans to release the Nexus 6 sometime in November of this year.

More often than not, most smartphones compared with the Nexus 6 are considered small. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy S5 appears small beside the Nexus 6, as the former comes with a 5.1-inch screen compared to 5.9-inch screen display of the Google device.

The Samsung device boasts Super AMOLED display at 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. On the other hand, the Nexus 6 will come with a quad HD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. Being the bigger device at 493 ppi, the Nexus 6 offers unspoiled graphics in brilliant magnitude. The Samsung device, on the other hand, has 432 ppi, an impressive feature considering its class.

The Samsung flagship smartphone is encased in a dimpled plastic exterior and its matte-effect finish makes it appear classier compared to the earlier editions in the Galaxy S line. Even the Nexus 6 has a classic look and a plastic rear.

If you prefer larger smartphones, you should definitely opt for the Nexus 6. The handset is quite impressive measuring 160 x 83 mm. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S5 measures 142 x 73 mm. The Nexus 6 and Galaxy S5 weigh 184 g and 145 g respectively.

The Nexus 6 should also be faster considering the fact that is has a more powerful processor. The Nexus device has a Snapdragon 805 quad core processor at 2.7 GHz well harmonized with 3 GB of RAM.

On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has 2 GB RAM and is powered by a Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor clocking in at 2.5 GHz. The Nexus 6 uses the latest Google OS update, Android 5.0 Lollipop, while the Samsung Galaxy S5 is still using Android KitKat, but is expected to be updated soon.

As far as the battery life is concerned, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is an excellent performer packed with a 2800 mAh battery. The Nexus 6, on the other hand, allows 9.5 hours of Internet usage with its 3220 mAh. However, in terms of charging, the Nexus 6 comes with a fast charging technology that allows 6 hours of battery power in just 15 minutes.

The cameras of the two devices are also excellent as both devices feature a 2-megapixel selfie snapper. While Galaxy S5 boasts a 16-megapixel rear shooter, the Nexus 6 sports a good 13-megapixel rear camera. Nexus 6 comes with a dual LED flash, which is missing in Galaxy S5.

On the other hand the Nexus comes with a fingerprint scanner and a heart rate sensor, but the Galaxy S5 lacks these features. While Nexus has a light splash protection, the Samsung S5 comes with IP67 water resistance feature.
