Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumors and Specs News: Features 5.2-Inch Screen and iPhone 5S Fingerprint Sensor (VIDEO PREVIEW)

There are just a couple days remaining until the Samsung Unpacked 2014 Event at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and rumors surrounding the eagerly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S5 device are hitting fever pitch.

Samsung enthusiast site, SamMobile, has reported this week rumors that Samsung's next generation smartphone will feature a fingerprint sensor, similar to that shown on the new iPhone 5S.

Pocket-lint, meanwhile, quoting Holland-based e-retailer Typhone, has claimd that the Galaxy S5 specs will come with a 5.2-inch full HD screen, plus a 16-megapixel camera.

Samsung previously revealed plans to shake things up with its newest smartphone unveiling, revealing last month that the display and the feel of the cover will be unlike anything shown by its predecessors. Those alterations were allegedly put on display in January when leaked pictures of the supposedly re-designed home screen surfaced on the internet.

Posted by tipster @evleaks, the images displayed a new home screen comparable to Microsoft's Windows Phone and Google Now cards, but similarly-sized and stacked atop one another.

It seems Samsung may have taken a cue from another contender as well; SamMobile basically confirmed that the Galaxy S5 will arrive with a fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button, just like Apple's iPhone 5s.

According to SamMobile, Samsung has not chosen on-screen buttons and is still using physical buttons, just like it has always used on all of its flagship devices.

The sensor will allegedly work in a swipe movement, meaning the user would have to move their entire finger up or down the key to register the print. Apple, for the moment, requires the owner to basically hold and press a finger onto the home button.

For the time being, reports of a 5.2-inch screen and 16-megapixel camera run contrary to earlier leaked pictures of a box that stated the phone will have a 5.25-inch, 2,560-by-1,440 screen and a 20-megapixel camera, according to a previous Pocket-lint article.

A Samsung spokeswoman declined to remark on the MWC reports.

Early this month, the technology titan sent invites to its newest Unpacked event, which is projected to contain the introduction of the Galaxy S5. The event is scheduled for 8 p.m. local time (2 p.m. ET) on Feb. 24 in Barcelona. The event will be streamed live on the internet.
