Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini Release Date: Specs and Price Review

The miniature version of Samsung's flagship Galaxy S5 is set for a release coming this August 7. The release of the standard size Galaxy S5 happened a few months ago and it was only a matter of time before a smaller version came out.

In the same month, Samsung will also be releasing the Galaxy Young 2, a week after the Galaxy S5 Mini.

The S5 Mini will be coming out in the UK at £389, slightly higher than the Galaxy S4 Mini, which sold at £380 sim-free. The S5 Mini will be the perfect phone for people who want the functionality of the normal-sized S5 without having to deal with its size and price tag.

Naturally, the S5 Mini has a smaller display than the normal sized S5. It comes with a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 screen. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass much like most current smartphones on the market. The phone runs on a less than powerful chip, a 1.4GHz processor with 1.5GB RAM.

The S5 Mini only has 16GB of internal memory that can be boosted by miniSD cards up to 64GB. It has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash. The camera can also record 1080p videos running at 30fps. Its front-facing camera only has 2.1-megapixels.

The S5 Mini runs on the latest Android OS Kitkat 4.4.2. There are however, no announcements or reports yet of the S5 Mini being able to run 4.4.4. From where it stands, it may not be able to run the OS.

Seeing as how the price of the S5 Mini doesn't quite match its specs, it might have a hard time gaining recognition from Samsung fans.
