Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Release Date, Specs, Features: Hits Retailers in U.S on November 14

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is set to hit stores in the U.S on Nov. 14 and will be available via major mobile carriers.

Samsung first introduced the Note Edge at the IFA Expo held in Berlin in September and showed off its unique feature, particularly the way the screen curved over the right side of the phone and allows the user to easily tap into and access email, news, notifications and app shortcuts.

The Galaxy Note Edge has a quad-core 2.7 GHz Snapdragon processor; a 5.6-inch HQ AMOLED screen with a 2560x1440 resolution; a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 3.7-megapixel front camera; GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi capability; a heart rate monitor; fingerprint sensor; and an S Pen support.

The Galaxy Note Edge also comes with 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and a 3,000 mAh battery. It has a Multi Window feature that allows the user to use multiple apps at the same time.

Interested consumers can expect to obtain the device via mobile carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon Wireless and others.

Samsung helped start the "phablet" design in 2012 with the Note, coming up with a smartphone with a size that's between that of typical smartphones and a tablet computer. The Note Edge is their new offering to continue the trend, however some are skeptical about how popular it will actually be.

"The Note Edge is a classic Samsung move: innovation for its own sake, without an obvious purpose," said Jan Dawson, chief analyst of the Utah-based technology research and advisor firm, Jackdaw Research, "Unless the device gets developer traction, which seems unlikely, it will not sell well."

Samsung has also been too focused on innovating their hardware at the expense of neglecting their software.

"The Edge screen is mostly just being used by some Samsung apps today," Dawson said, "Unless third-party developers start making use of it, it's going to be much more a gimmick than a feature."

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge will be available in the U.S on Nov. 17 in retail stores across the country. Samsung also plans to launch the Note Edge in Australia, China, India and Russia before the end of the year.
