Samsung Galaxy Gear S - Review of Specs: Too Many Features? Device is Heavy

Samsung Gear S is the next version of Samsung's smart watch series and while original Gear lacked features, this device might have too many. With Samsung Gear S Smart watch, Samsung has tried to evolve a smart watch from a companion to your cellphone, to a standalone device.

It comes equipped with its own SIM slot and also has GPS in built for you. It's basically a phone on your wrist.

Design wise, Gear S is an improvement on previous models, the OLED display slopes with the curvature of the wrist, but that also means you have something that definitely doesn't sit flat on your wrist.

The strap however, is too thick for its purpose and may make you feel a little uncomfortable.

The OS used for Gear S is probably its best feature. Samsung has provided ease of use with quality. The Tizen OS used for Gear S has simplified the countless swipes that come with Gear Fit.

The 2-inch AMOLED screen has made it really comfortable to interact with Apps; also readability is enhanced as you can comfortably read text without squinting.

The native apps are also enhanced to make it easier to interact with and now comes with a better look. However, still too many apps may make it clunky to use.

Battery is claimed to last for two days, but excessive use off the GPS may shorten it.

The issue with smart watches is that no one exactly knows what people want from Smart Watch. For now Gear S is looking a better version over Gear Fit, but at the same time it is too hefty or heavy for its own good.

For Samsung this product could just be a test to see where they want to go with smart watches in future.
