Samsung Galaxy Alpha Release Date, Specs List: Launch of Thinnest Galaxy Device at Unpacked 2014 on Sept. 3

Korean tech titan Samsung has finally confirmed the launch of the metal-bodied Galaxy Alpha for September and has also released the complete specifications list for the upcoming device.

The new smartphone will be launched at the Samsung Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 in Berlin on Sept. 3, 2014 at around 15:00 CEST, prior to the annual IFA Consumer Electronics fair.

Samsung Electronics' IT and Mobile Communication CEO and Head J K Shin said, "The Galaxy Alpha was built and designed based on the specific desires of the consumer market," adding, "With an entirely new appearance, the Galaxy Alpha focuses on both beauty and functionality combining a stunning metal frame and slim, light weight design with the same powerful hardware and features users expect from a flagship Galaxy mobile device."

While Galaxy Alpha will have a smaller, more slender and lightweight design, it will offer the same powerful Samsung experience to the users. The thickness of Alpha is below 7 mm, making this Galaxy device one of the slimmest to come out from the Samsung stables.

As per the official announcement, Galaxy Alpha will sport a 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED display together with 1280 x 720 resolution, Ultra Power Saving Mode, Octa Core, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB internal memory, a 12 MP rear-facing camera and a second 2.1 MP front-facing camera. The upcoming smartphone will be powered by Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

Galaxy Alpha will also feature fingerprint scanning technology, S Health, as well as connectivity to Samsung Gear Fit, Gear 2 , and Gear Live.

In all, the device will be available in five colors - Charcoal Black, Dazzling White, Scuba Blue, Frosted Gold and Sleek Silver.

The new smartphone is likely to pose as stiff competition to Apple's upcoming iPhone 6 when it is released later this year.

The event will be streamed live via YouTube and it will take place simultaneously in three key cities - Berlin, New York and Beijing.
