Roma Downey Says 'Son of God' Movie About Jesus will Spread Message of 'Hope and Love' and 'Will Touch the Lives of Millions'

One year after the record-breaking miniseries, "The Bible," released, husband-and-wife duo Mark Burnett and actress Roma Downey are set to bring the account of Jesus to the big screen with Son of God coming to theaters Feb. 28 and Downey said reception of the film has left her more than encouraged.

The History Channel miniseries averaged 11.7 million viewers per week. Produced by Downey and Burnett, the film will include both scenes from the hit television series and never-before-seen footage of the life of Jesus.

Downey told TheBlaze she is also hoping Son of God has a monumental spiritual impact like the miniseries did.

"We hope audiences leave theaters feeling they know Jesus more and also that they are reminded of how deeply he loved us," the Touched by an Angel actress said. "This is a big, epic sweeping film - an exciting movie and sometimes a tense movie with intense drama and real danger."

"At the end you feel incredibly humbled and loved - reminded that we are all children of God," Downey assured.

Downey said feedback of the pre-screening events have left her massively encouraged.

"We have felt support across all denominations ... businesses are buying out whole theaters and donating the seats to churches, encouraging folks to come opening weekend and to bring a friend and to bring the whole family," she said. "We believe this message of hope and love will touch the lives of millions."

20th Century Fox will be widely distributing Son of God, and it will be the first Christian major motion picture from a large studio since Gibson's "Passion of the Christ."

The movie is summarized by ?20th Century Fox and the trailer's description says about the film:

"Now, the larger-than-life story of The New Testament gets a larger-than life treatment in the stand-alone feature SON OF GOD. Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado portrays Jesus as the film spans from his humble birth through his teachings, crucifixion and ultimate resurrection. It marks the first motion picture about Jesus's life since Passion of the Christ, released ten years ago."

It will hit theaters a month before "Noah," another Bible-based highly anticipated film starring Russell Crowe and Emma Watson, which opens in theaters on March 28
