'Resurrection' Season Finale, Renewal News: ABC Has Not Yet Tapped Series For More Episodes
The penultimate season two episode of ABC's "Resurrection" just aired, but that won't stop fans from already anticipating the season finale, which airs next week.
In a matter of spoilers, CarterMatt opines that while the official press release calls next week's episode titled "Loved in Return" the season finale, and not the series finale as some have thought, the biggest spoiler would be if the show isn't renewed by ABC.
Whether or not next week will see the last hurrah for "Resurrection" is still up in the air, but one thing's for sure, a few questions will be answered by "Loved in Return."
The teaser for the season finale showed Preacher James and his congregation of Returned assembling in front of the Langston house with the primary intention of preventing Rachael's baby from being born. With nowhere to go, Bellamy, Henry, and Fred prepare for the imminent battle, arming themselves, bent on protecting the house and saving the still unborn child.
That scenario is clear enough, but as CarterMatt highlights, the same question that has loomed over the characters the past few episodes has remained the same"”will they be ready for both the battle and its implications?
"Resurrection" made a vital turn for the better in the midpoint of its second season, which saw the first part of season two miring the plot with too much going on that led to a lot of confusion. The arrival of Preacher James presented an opportunity for clarity, and as the season went on, the shows' writers have been able to use James' motivations to clear some things up.
James believes that Rachael's child is the Antichrist, and is determined to prevent its birth. Bellamy is on the other side of this endeavor, but as CarterMatt points out, the moral ambiguity at the center of this upcoming war is what makes the season finale so compelling, with viewers still unsure of who is actually right.
ABC is set to air the "Resurrection" finale on January 25.
