Real Madrid come into this game after defeating Barcelona 2-1 to win the Copa del Rey Final on April 16.
Real will look to continue their winning ways when they battle reigning Champions League champs Bayern Munich tonight. Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to play Wednesday afternoon against the dominant squad from Germany, who have had an amazing season until now.
"I'm really happy. I wanted to play and help the team but my team-mates did a great job. I'm getting better, now I don't feel any pain," said Ronaldo to reporters last week. "I might be back in time for next Wednesday [today] or perhaps the second leg of our Champions League tie. Bit by bit I'm feeling better and what I want more than anything is to be able to help the team out as soon as possible."
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich recently eliminated Manchester United from the competition 4-2 on aggregate over the two legs of their quarter final match up. United troubled Bayern in the first leg but could only come away from Old Trafford with a 1-1 draw. However, when United took the lead in the second leg, many thought a massive upset could be on the cards. But the response from the German team was immediate and within minutes they were not only level but quickly moved into the lead. A goal late on completed a 3-1 second leg win for the German team to keep their dreams alive of becoming the first team to retain the Champions League title in the current format of the European Cup tournament.
Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola knows Real Madrid will be a major challenge for his squad this afternoon.
"I was unbeaten here but with another club," said Pep Guardiola to reporters. "It's always difficult to beat Madrid and we will not do so without playing extremely well. Player for player they are the most difficult rival we could have drawn. There is no one in football at the moment with a squad like Madrid's."
