The New York Rangers will face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins at CONSOL Energy Center tonight in Pittsburgh. The game will start at 7 p.m. ET and can be watched online through live stream via the link provided below (free for subscribers).
The Rangers will now play in second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs Friday night, after eliminating to the Flyers from postseason contention by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday night in Game 7. Daniel Carcillo and Benoit Pouliot both scored a goal to help New York advance to the next round to get the opportunity to battle the Penguins this evening.
Rangers currently have four NHL championships (1927-28, 1932-33, 1939-40, 1993-94) and they are looking to win their first championship since "The Captain" Mark Messier era.
"Coming home last night, I was so disappointed," said Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist to reporters after Game 7 on Wednesday. "But at the same time, I was mad because we couldn't come up with a better performance. To play a Game 7 at home and to win, that was the inspiration. We played a really strong series. I think we were the better team. We pushed the pace almost every game. We definitely earned this one."
The Penguins, meanwhile will be looking defend their home ice this series versus the Rangers when the two teams battle each other in Game 1.
In Game 6, Evgeni Malkin had a terrific game, scoring a hat trick (3 goals in a game) to propel the Penguins to the victory versus the Columbus Blue Jackets by 4-3 on Monday night in order to advance to the second round. The Penguins currently have three NHL championships (1990-91, 1991-92, 2008-09) and they will be desperate to push on this postseason and win the Stanley Cup trophy for the fourth time in franchise history.
"I'm pretty sure the intensity will get really high at one point when we start," said Pittsburgh player Kris Letang to reporters. "The emotion is always going to be part of the game and we're going to have to control it the best we can."
