Raheem Sterling News: Footballer Moves to Manchester City with £49 Million Record Transfer Fee
England winger Raheem Sterling is now the most expensive English player in history after a £49 million transfer from Liverpool to Manchester City was completed. The deal, which was announced by the Sky Blues on Tuesday, is believed to be in the range of £200,000 a week, according to Ian Doyle of Liverpool Echo.
"Raheem Sterling is one of the best attacking players in world football, and I am very much looking forward to him joining our squad out in Australia later this week," Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said of his 20-year-old acquisition.
"He is a young player with outstanding ability, and I am sure the Manchester City fans will be very excited about seeing him in action for the team."
Said Sterling, "It's a good feeling and this is really a happy time for me and my family. I'm just glad it's all over and done with and I can't wait to get on the training field."
"The thing that excites me most is the world class squad we have and knowing we have a team that is capable of winning things year in, year out."
As noted by Bleacher Report, Sterling was in good form at the beginning of the 2014-15 season despite the sale of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge mired in injuries. But after his performance dipped as the season went on, his eventual exit from Liverpool became the subject of rumors.
Sterling rejected a proposed deal of £100,000 a week to stay in Liverpool back in March. The talented winger still had two years left on his deal with the Reds. In 129 appearances for Anfield, Sterling managed 23 goals.
"I want to thank Brendan Rodgers for giving me a chance and an opportunity in the first team, giving me my full debut"”against City funnily enough"”and giving me a real chance to cement a place in the first team and show the world my talents," Sterling said.
