PS4 vs Xbox One Sales: Next-Gen Consoles Sell Roughly 1,000 Units Per Minute Says Amazon

PS4 and Xbox One sold approximately 1,000 units a minute on Amazon during the holiday season, the online retail giant announced in a release this weekend.

In addition, the company has also announced that over 36.8 million items were sold on Cyber Monday. That astounding number equates to 426 items per second.

The three bestselling video games on Amazon were Call of Duty: Ghosts (Xbox 360), Just Dance 2014 (Wii), and Grand Theft Auto 5 (Xbox 360) they said.

The two next-gen consoles have moved over two million units since their week-apart launches in November, with the PS4 outpacing the Xbox One by 700,000. Part of the reasoning for this is Sony launched one week before them, and is also available in 48 countries compared to Microsoft's 13, according to Cinema Blend. However, with that being said, the PlayStation 4 is in short supply everywhere as not enough consoles are available to meet the demand of buyers. This is where Microsoft played it smart and made sure to be available to some of their larger markets first.

Meanwhile in over a year since its launch, the Wii U has struggled to sell and is in the four million sold range and close to being eclipsed by the other two consoles. However, Nintendo's 3DS sales are stronger than ever as the handheld continues to release highly praised games.

The PlayStation 4 launched on November and is $399, while the Xbox One is $499 and launched on November 22.
