PS4 Availability Limited as Sony Looks to Restock After High Demand

PlayStation 4's availability will be going down the next few weeks because of the overwhelming demand of the conference announced Sony.

"I can't work [the math] out precisely," said PlayStation UK executive Fergal Gara according to the Christian Post. "But based on what I've seen so far, I think it is going to be [hard to find a console] until around about April. You might get a fortnight or a week here or there where it is more available, but we should be back to free supply by about April"¦ That's our best guess. It might be a little earlier than that, or it might be a little later But we'll get there."

It appears that Sony sold themselves short with the estimated number of consoles they were going to need come launch and the months immediately following.

Sony also recently announced the console reached their goal of selling over 5 million units by the end of the fiscal year, which would be on March 31. These great sales numbers were in spite of the console not being available in Japan until this last weekend.

"The PS4 system's momentum just keeps growing stronger, and we are extremely grateful for the continued passion and support of PlayStation fans," Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., said in a released statement. "I'm looking forward to Japanese fans sharing the excitement of the deep social capabilities and entertainment experiences only possible on PS4."

PlayStation 4 just released an update that improves software stability and camera features.

Polygon reported that update 1.61 works with update 1.60. 1.60 will add support for wireless stereo headsets as well as the option to mute the PlayStation Camera microphone. The second includes the software stability features.

For information on the updates, PlayStation goes through it all in detail on their blog.
