Even though Mona Vanderwaal from 'Pretty Little Liars' is one of the most despised characters in the series, fans are still in shock about her unexpected death. Viewers are left wondering how the story is going to continue as she can no longer play an active role in everyday Rosewood.

In the episode, "Taking This One to the Grave," the crew gathered and tried to work with Mona to discover Ali's plans. Mona agreed to join them because she said she wanted to get back at Ali because she "stole" her life.

After they discovered that Ali passed a lie detector test as a part of the investigation for Bethany Young's murder, the "Liars" knew that they would need Mona's help to find out what Ali told the cops.

After Mona spoke with Aria and told her that she was able to gather important information about Ali's connection to Bethany, a hooded blonde broke into her house and killed her.

Fans were speculating that her death, just like Ali's, is staged. However, according to Janel Parrish, her character's death is real.

Parrish, however, hinted that she would be coming back for a couple of scenes in January next year for Season 5.

Even the crew did not expect Mona's death. Lucy Hale told Wetpaint, "This, for me, is one of the most shocking and one of the most heartbreaking episodes of Pretty Little Liars we've ever done. What happens is very heartbreaking, and I, personally, did not see it coming from a million miles away."
