'Preacher' Season 2 Release Date News: AMC Confirms Renewal
AMC has approved the renewal of "Preacher" for a season 2.
An adaptation of the popular new comic book of the same title by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, "Preacher" is currently halfway through its pilot season. While the first season includes just 10 episodes, it has been confirmed that the next season will include 13 episodes when it returns in 2017.
"'Preacher' is a special television program and we're eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season," announced AMC president Charlie Collier last June 29.
"What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis' graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters, be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond," he added.
The supernatural series features a preacher named Jesse Custer, whose quest is to find God. He is influenced by a mysterious being named Genesis, who grants him the power to make other people do as he commands. His strange ability attracts two angels named Fiore and DeBlanc.
Aside from Jesse Custer, the other two main characters in the series are his ex-girlfriend Tulip and a vampire named Cassidy.
Prior to its premiere on AMC in 2014, "Preacher" was developed as a feature film. Directed by Rogen and Goldberg, its early episodes apparently deviated from the original comic book. Despite that, "Preacher" season 2 is expected to remain faithful to its source material.
"Preacher" airs every Sunday, 9:00 p.m. on AMC.
