'Pokemon GO' Project News: Google & Nintendo Invest $20 Million in Creator Niantic Labs [VIDEO]

Google and Nintendo have made headlines recently as their $20 million dollar investment in Niantic Labs has created a lot of buzz. For those that may not know, Niantic Labs is responsible for the creation of 'Pokemon GO', a new augmented reality Pokemon experience.

News of the investments has led many to believe that both Google and Nintendo have much faith in the new MMO style Pokemon project. The project also spearheaded by The Pokemon Company allows players to catch Pokemon in the world around them.

Basically, the game is based on a smartphone app that directs users to real world places where they'll be able to "capture" Pokemon as virtual objects. This style of game has been labeled "augmented reality," which is evidently fitting.

In a recent interview John Hanke CEO of Nianic Labs said, "Augmented reality is about making reality more interesting."

Beyond that, Niantic Labs has ventured into this realm before with their successful iOS and Android app, Ingress. That software syncs with what is needed in 'Pokemon GO', so their new endeavor has been met with experience.

While 'Pokemon GO' is looking at a 2016 release date, gamers looking forward to playing this new style Pokemon title can rest a little easier knowing Google and Nintendo have put faith into the project.
