PlayStation Plus September 2014 Free Games: PS4 & PS3 Titles, 'Sportsfriends' and 'Velocity 2X'

Only halfway through September and Sony has already released two free games for PlayStation Plus members - 'Sportsfriends' and 'Velocity 2X'. Even though both games are highly rated, 'Velocity 2X' is proving to be the more popular title amongst gamers.

'Velocity 2X' succeeds 'Velocity Ultra' and engages players both in space combat as well as land-based gunplay, in addition to some platforming action thrown in for good measure.

In fact, there was little doubt that 'Velocity 2X' would see plenty of free downloads among PlayStation Plus members, as the game was launched for free for PlayStation Plus members on the same day it was available on sale for non-PlayStation Plus members.

Since then remarkable things have been happening as numerous downloads are translating into high ratings. Actually, some people have been saying that 'Velocity 2X' will be a PS4 game of the year contender.

On the other hand, 'Sportsfriends', the second PlayStation Plus September 2014 free game, has not done as well, especially as far as publicity is concerned. Nevertheless, the game does not have any shortage of fans, and its 82 percent rating on Metacritic is only a few points below 'Velocity 2X'.

Although the contrast in download volume does not seem to be remarkable on the surface, it is mostly because 'Sportsfriends' first released in May. On the other hand, 'Velocity 2X' was released earlier this month as part of the PlayStation Plus September 2014 free game lineup.

Even PlayStation 3 owners awaiting their PlayStation Plus September 2014 free games have got two titles, but the one with the highest-rating is nearly two years old.

'All Stars Battle Royale' is the first of the free PlayStation Plus games in September for PS3 owners, and intially released in November 2012. The second free game for PlayStation Plus members for PS3 is 'HOARD', an action-strategy game wherein players try to conquer a medieval kingdom.
