PlayStation Now Beta: Details on Price & WiFi Compatibility

Sony PlayStation's lack of backwards compatibility has been an issue for fans of the system since the PS3 Slim edition released September 1, 2009 and eliminated the feature. Touching upon the pleas of their loyal consumers, Sony has synced up with Gaikai, a streaming service, to provide gamers with access to classic PlayStation games over the years.

The service entitled PlayStation Now is currently being Beta tested which makes information leaks about its features possible.

When the PlayStation Now Beta was first accessible, a rumor emerged about its inability to connect to the internet via WiFi. This is now confirmed as false information. Gamers will be able to connect to the streaming service via WiFi and hardwired connections. However users should know, a subpar WiFi connection will slow downloads and cause frequent disconnections. This is common with any streaming service, hardwired connections will tend to trump WiFi ones.

Another leak stemming from users Beta testing the service, reveals the average prices of the games and the amount of time they can we "rented" for. Games marked as low as $2.99 were available to rent for four hours, but the more popular titles cost $4.99 for that amount of time. The prices will vary in accordance to the amount of time the player wishes to stream the game. Long term rentals were also possible, an example stands as, $29.99 for 90 days of game time.

As Sony has previously mentioned, prices will be set by the publisher, so you can expect a wide variety of pricing models for different games.

More definitive prices on certain titles listed on PlayStation Now will be known when it steps into open beta, July 31, 2014.
