PlayStation 4 Won't Play CDs? Xbox One Will? Release Date, Price...

Those of you who held on to your Hootie and the Blowfish CDs, who are planning on buying a PlayStation 4, you may want to reconsider.

According to recent reports, the PS4 will not feature a drive to play old CDs. Good news, though. The Xbox One will! Not only will the upcoming Microsoft console play CDs, but also DVDs and Blu-Rays. The PS4 will have access to the latter two though.

So dig up your Don Henley catalog because the Xbox One will be out sooner than you think, with a scheduled November 22 release date. The PlayStation 4 will be out a week earlier on November 15.

If CDs aren't an issue for you then maybe price is. The PS4 is certainly more budget-friendly with a price tag set for $399, a $100 cheaper than its competitor.

Microsoft hopes having the CD-playing feature will be just enough to edge them over Sony in the present and in the future.

"Being built for the future is one of the principles that we had when we built the Xbox One," according to Albert Penello, the company's Director of Product Planning. "We want to build a system that preserved the best of console gaming, so that developers can write to the metal, they can continue to optimize, they can continue to build better looking games over time and also have this part of the system reserved for the future."
