‘PlanetSide 2’ PS4 Beta Version Release Date: New PlayStation 4 Beta Test January 2015

It has been confirmed by the president of Sony Online Entertainment himself, John Smedley, that a beta version of 'PlanetSide 2' will be released for the PlayStation 4 next year, during the week of Jan. 13 or Jan. 20.

Smedley shared the news on Twitter in response to a fan who asked him about the progress and submission of the game for the PS4.

"It was approved first pass and goes up either the week of the 13th or 20th," the reply stated, before listing down the dates. Smedley added, "We will know when we are back on the 5th."

Smedley and Sony have yet to release information on who will be able to access the game's beta version. However, players have been encouraged since early this month to sign up on the official website of 'PlanetSide 2' to hopefully gain access to the game when the beta goes alive.

Sony initially planned to release the game in 2014, following the PC version of it that was launched two years ago, however, that did not happen.

When asked as to why it was taking so long to release the game, creative director Matt Higby stated in November that they wanted the game to showcase a "full-on console experience." He also stated that there's still a lot that needed to be done by the developers.

"As much as it sounds like we're blowing smoke, we're working hard to release a game that feels like a full-on console experience and not just like a port," he stated, "So it's taken us quite a long time to re-jigger our user interface and our controls."

'PlanetSide 2' is an MMOFPS game that pits players against one another in a large-scale planetary war. It is one among the few dozen free-to-play games on the PlayStation 4 that Sony will be showcasing next year.
