Phoenix Suns NBA 2014 Rumors, News Update: Triple Guard Lineup Dominates San Antoinio Spurs

The Phoenix Suns' three-guard lineup of Goran Dragic, Erica Bledsoe, and Isaiah Thomas, helped them win against defending champions San Antonio Spurs on Friday, October 31.

The Suns Coach, Jeff Hornacek, surprised basketball fans when he put in his three point guards to play on the court at the same time. The trio played for the final four minutes of the game and managed to secure the win at a score of 94 to 89.

"I think it puts a lot of pressure on teams with who they're going to guard," Hornacek said, talking about his decision to put Thomas, Bledsoe and Dragic together, "All those guys just turned it up defensively, and that's what we need."

Thomas the newcomer of the trio, acquired from the Sacramento Kings, managed to score 18 out of 23 points in the second half of the game, and 10 points during the fourth quarter.

Thomas also said the Suns "have so many good shooters it clears the way for drives to the basket" and that sometimes he "just walked into a layup."

The Suns didn't lead the game over the Spurs until Thomas' layup with 3:34 left to play which put the score at 88 - 87. That marked the start of a 10-0 run that put the Suns up to 92 - 87.

The Phoenix Suns' win should help to boost fans' spirits after the team was forced to leave out some of their players during the preseason game held the week prior at the US Airways Arena.

Fans were outraged when players Tim Duncan, Kawhi Leonard, Manu Ginobili, Tiago Splitter and Patty Mills were unable to make the trip to Phoenix to play. At the time, Leonard had an eye infection, Splitter had a calf strain and Mills had a torn rotator cuff. Head coach Gregg Popovich was also unable to make it.

Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver apologized to upset fans and urged them to mail in their proof of attendance to receive a gift certificate in compensation.

Ginobili and Duncan were all able to play at the game on Friday, Oct. 31. Leonard was able to play on Friday's game, but will have to be taken off the roster when the deadline passed for the Spurs to re-sign him. Leonard can opt to play around as a restricted free agent as the Spurs are unable to re-sign him until next summer.

The San Antonio Spurs have an upcoming game on Thursday, Nov. 6 against Atlanta Hawks, while the Phoenix Suns had a game against Utah Jazz on Nov. 2 Sunday, losing the game at 91-118.
