Singer/songwriter and worship leader Phil Wickham has his first career No. 1 Single with "This Is Amazing Grace," topping National Christian audience charts.

After a decade-long career Wickhams new album The Ascension gave the singer his best street week ever, landing at No. 2 on the Billboard Christian Albums Chart and the Top 40 on the Billboard 200.

His first single off the album, "This Is Amazing Grace," followed suit, making its way up the charts to the No. 1 spot Billboard's National Christian Audience Chart this week. Scoring Wickham the first No. 1 of his career.

"This Is Amazing Grace" was written to give the church a new song to both worship through and sing together," said Wickham according to his press release. "It's been awesome to see the way that this song has been impacting Christian radio listeners, and I'm honored to be a part of the work God is doing through it."

"This Is Amazing Grace," was written by Wickham and producer Pete Kipley (MercyMe, Matthew West). The tune also landed the No. 1 spot on the Christian AC Monitored and Christian AC Indicator Charts. In addition, Wickham has achieved an impressive presence on iTunes, consistently holding a Top 5 position on the iTunes Christian & Gospel Songs Chart.

Wickhams album, The Ascension, was inspired by the Songs of Ascent passages found in the book of Psalms. The record was released on the Label Fair Trade Services in Sep. of last year and JesusFreakHideout said it is an "excellent combination of all of Phil Wickham's previous offerings with dashes of enough newness to make it certifiably fresh."

Since last fall, Wickham released an official music video and lyric video for "This Is Amazing Grace," racking up over half a million cumulative views.
