'Penny Dreadful', the British-American television series whose title was coined from the 19th century British publication 'Penny Dreadful', has just had its contract renewed for Showtime, an American satellite TV network.

The show, which premiered during the first quarter of this year both on British and American television stations, is set to film 10 more episodes for its second season which is expected to premiere sometime next year.

Season 2 of the horror TV series holds many surprises as producer John Logan reveals that unlike the first season, where the plot was centered on a vampire villain - a new human antagonist by the name of Madam Kali is set to battle the main characters in the upcoming season.

During the Comic-Con event recently held in San Diego, Logan, along with 'Penny Dreadful' actors Reeve Carney, Harry Treadaway, and Josh Hartnett, revealed that Madam Kali will be a serious threat to the heroes of series. The character was first introduced in the thriller's first season where she appeared in two of the episodes.

'Penny Dreadful' is a horror-drama thriller situated in the 1900's. It features characters drawn from original fictions in the same era, namely: Dorian Gray of Oscar Wilde's 'The Picture of Dorian Gray', Abraham Van Helsing and Mina Harker of Bram Stoker's 'Dracula', and the monster and Victor Frankenstein from Mary Shelly's 'Frankenstein'.

The series follows the characters of Sir Malcolm Murray, an English explorer, and Ethan Chandler, an American gunslinger who, along with other main protagonists in the thriller, unite to battle otherworldly threats in Victorian era London.

'Penny Dreadful' is brought to life onscreen by actors Carney, who plays Dorian Gray, Hartnett as Ethan Chandler, Treadaway as Dr. Victor Frankenstein, Timothy Dalton as Sir Malcolm Murray, Eva Green as Vanessa Ives, and Rory Kinnear as The Creature.

The high-rated television series is set for another release sometime in 2015.
