The Boston Bruins jumped out to an early lead against the Penguins in Game 1, with their first goal coming at the 8:23 mark [first period] from Bruins centerman David Krejci. Then the poor Penguins defense on display in the Islanders series earlier in the post season came to fruition for Pittsburgh. David Krejci scored his second goal of the game at 4:04 of the third period. Then Bruins right winger Nathan Horton closed out the Bruins scoring at 7:51 in the third.

Due to lack of focus from the Pittsburgh defense Boston had really easy scoring opportunities throughout the game. Though the Bruins only outshot the Penguins by one shot, they dominated face-offs with a 32-16 margin.

Neither team could capitalize on power play opportunities. The Penguins home crowd in Pittsburgh didn't help their team's chances at all. The game felt disconnected from the quiet Penguins crowd. Look for the Pittsburgh fans to come out excited and ready to make noise in Game 2. Though there have been plenty of comeback performances in the NHL playoffs, Penguins fans didn't think their team was up for the task.
