Paris Hilton Perfume Launches, Scent Called 'With Love, Paris Hilton'

Recently, Paris Hilton introduced her 17th fragrance, which is called "With Love, Paris Hilton." It has been released through the New York-based Parlux, Ltd.

Although better known for being a media punch line, Hilton is a businesswoman whose Paris Hilton Entertainment has generated $2 billion in revenues over the years.

Woman's Wear Daily interviewed her and her partner right before the release of the newest perfume. WWD asked, "The question today is the same one that arose when she launched her first fragrance a decade ago: What qualifies her to peddle perfume in the first place?"

"I would say that the success speaks for itself. [My brand] is one of the number-one celebrity fragrances out there and I have 17, which is a lot more than, I don't know, most people," Hilton said, adding that it continues to grow. She said, "Every single month we are getting more sales and more countries wanting to sell the fragrances."

Donald Loftus, the president of Parlux, told WWD that Hilton's other activities keep her in the spotlight and keep her brand fresh. She has done some singing, some DJing and also has a line of designer handbags. Hilton herself has named her great-aunt Elizabeth Taylor as an inspiration.

Hundreds of celebrities have launched fragrances, but only a few have been successful. According to Michael Edwards the perfume expert and author of 'Fragrances of the World', the market is saturated.

"If we look back 20 years, in 1993 we tracked six celebrity fragrances," he says, "In 2003, there were 11. Last year, there were 58-and that is down from some 76 in 2012."

Edwards also notes that one advantage Hilton has is her international fame. She is very popular in Japan, much of Asia, and the Middle East. She also releases a new fragrance every six months or so.
