Pacific Rim 2 Movie Release Date, Spoilers: A Different Take on the Kaijus and More Epic Battles

Celebrated filmmaker and director Guillermo Del Toro recently announced the coming sequel of the 2013 international hit 'Pacific Rim'. Still under Legendary Pictures, the upcoming film will be released on April 7, 2017. Prior to that schedule, Del Toro also spoke about releasing an animated series of the franchise which is set to be distributed in the US by Universal Pictures.

In the heart of his announcement, del Toro spoke about the return of the lead characters Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and maybe even Hannibal Chau. Though official deals are not yet complete, the original actors including Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, and others will once again appear in the movie.

The story would be taking these heroes into a whole new territory that promises incredible sights that better suit the epic battles he prepared for the film. It has been said that this sequel will put into effect an effort to expand the "mythology of the Anteverse so that fans will gain a more in-depth vision of the said fictional world.

The director will be working with 'X-Men: The Last Stand' screenwriter, Zak Penn for the script while Travis Beacham would also take on a major role in the expansion project. Meanwhile, del Toro is currently engaged with his present horror film, 'Crimson Peak', as it is now in its post-production stage.

Cast Charlie Hunnam expressed his interest with the sequel in an interview, he said, "I'm interested to see what the period of peace after the war looks like, and what these guys do, and how the world would react. One of the things I love most about 'Pac Rim' was the idea that we all kind of dropped our petty differences to fight the monsters at our door, literally."
