'Pacific Rim 2' Movie Release Date Rumors: Guillermo Del Torro Reveals Storyline and Script in the Works

Movie maker Guillermo Del Toro has recently revealed that he and writer Zak Penn are plotting a sequel to the 2013 robotic action film, 'Pacific Rim'. Del Toro also stated that Travis Beacham was involved in writing the new storyline before he switched to writing for 'Hieroglyph' by Fox Entertainment.

During his Buzzfeed interview, the 'Pacific Rim' director ended rumors circling about that the next movie installment as a prequel to the 2013 film. Del Toro affirmed that making the first wave of invasions as the central plot in the sequel never interested him, and added that the latest installment will be encompassing entirely new sequences dissimilar to the original movie plot.

The first 'Pacific Rim' movie featured actors Charlie Hunnam as Raleigh Beckett, Diego Klatenhoff as Yancy Beckett, Idris Elba as Stacker Pentecost, Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Muri, Charlie Day as Dr. Newton Geiszler, Burn Gorman as Gottlieb, and Max Martini as Herc Hansen.

Del Toro also stated that 'Pacific Rim 2' production has not officially started, even though he and writer Zak Penn's storyline for the upcoming movie has long been underway. However, Universal Studios has officially announced a release date for 'Pacific Rim 2', which has been slated for an April 17, 2017 premiere.

'Pacific Rim' 2013 earned more than $37 million in its opening weekend during its July 12, 2013 premiere, and has so far grossed over $411 million worldwide.
