Oscar Pistorius Murder Trial Latest News: Trial Nears End, Final and Closing Arguments

Paralympics athlete Oscar Pistorius will be attending the final trial for the Reeva Steenkamp murder case on August 7th. The case will entail the conclusive and closing arguments for the charges that have been filed against him.

Pistorius, who says that he did not intentionally kill Steenkamp, was granted bail in February, while the murder trial started in March.

The 27-year-old athlete has already apologized to Steenkamp's family in a court trial earlier in May. During the opening of his defense, Pistorius tearfully express his regret for fatally shooting the model that led to her death in February 14, 2013. Reeva's mother later on stated that she had forgiven Pistorius, but believed that her 'daughter's soul will only be put to rest' once justice has been served.

The murder trial resumed June 30 after an independent psychiatric evaluation from Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital found that the athlete could be held criminally liable despite earlier testimonies from his defense that the athlete suffers from an anxiety disorder.

Forensic Psychiatrist Meryll Vorster testified earlier in Pistorius' defense, and released the Paralympic's psychiatric evaluation, where it originally stated that the athlete suffers from severe anxiety disorder and therefore cannot be held criminally accountable.

So far, Pistorius has not deviated from his initial defense; consistently stating in his testimonies that he had mistaken Steenkamp for a burglar on that tragic Valentine's Day.

Judge Thokozile Masipa is expected to decide Pistorius's fate shortly after the final and closing arguments on August 7.
