Oscar Pistorius Murder Trial Update: Pistorious Suicide Risk as Sprinter Experiences Extreme Depression
Oscar Pistorious, South African Olympic and Paralympic runner who shocked the whole world by shooting his girlfriend, model and lawyer Reeve Steenkamp, is likely to be suffering from severe depression and may need to be kept under suicide watch, according to some recent reports coming out from South Africa recently.
His depression has reportedly been proven and read out by psychiatrists at his recent murder trial; a development that could significantly influence the manner in which the trial progresses.
Pistorious is believed to be suffering from depression almost all of the time and could take his life, given the chance.
Pistorious could end up facing a life term in prison if he is indeed found to be guilty of having murdered his girlfriend.
It came as a shock to one and all when he decided to open fire on her at his Pretoria Home without any concrete reason.
Pistorious has faced double amputation in both his legs and once was regarded as a role model by many, particularly by those with similar disabilities.
His team of lawyers is trying to argue that he shot his girlfriend because he mistook her to be an intruder in his home.
According to the defense team, Pistorious is a person who is in need of immediate psychiatric attention and care. If he is not provided with the required treatment there is a chance that he is going to find some way to end his life.
