Oscar Pistorius Murder Trial Update: Judge to Decide Guilty or Not Guilty Verdict Soon

As the closing arguments were presented in the controversial Reeva Steenkamp murder case, where Paralympic star athlete Oscar Pistorius is suspect, prosecution Chief George Nelle has called the 27-year-old athlete a 'deceitful' witness.

Pistorius is being accused of intentionally shooting his then-girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, during Valentine's Day last year which led to the former model's tragic demise. The entire duration of the murder trial took place in Pretoria, South Africa, where Pistorius is also a resident.

As the case is slowly coming to an end, both the prosecution and Pistorius' lawyer Barry Roux were given their final shots in proving Pistorius's innocence or guilt.

The prosecution for the murder case had argued that Steenkamp's murder was allegedly premeditated, and that the Paralympic athlete was fully aware that he was shooting at Reeva during the time of the incident, as opposed to Pistorius's defense that he had mistaken Steenkamp for a burglar when he shot her.

Pistorius had remained consistent with his alibi throughout the trial, maintaining that he had no intentions of shooting nor killing Steenkamp, and even asked the model's family for forgiveness at one point during the opening of his defense, where he was highly emotional.

In the final arguments, Pistorius defense, headed by lawyer Roux, asserted that the evidences presented before the court during the start of the trial were falsely presented by a former lead detective in the investigation, Hilton Brou, who was later on pulled off the case due to manslaughter charges filed against him in a separate case.

If found guilty, Pistorius can be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison. Judge Thokozile Masipa is expected to announce Friday the date on which Pistorius is supposed to be given his verdict.
