Oscar De La Hoya Checks Himself Back into Rehab / Won't be Ringside During Mayweather vs Canelo Fight
Oscar De La Hoya won't be ringside during the Mayweather vs. Canelo fight this weekend. The fight is one of the biggest fights to be put on by De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotional Boxing Company.
De La Hoya has openly admitted himself back in a rehab treatment center just after completing treatment for a cocaine and alcohol addiction in 2011. He released the following statement,
"I will not be at the fight this Saturday to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself into a treatment facility. I explained this to Canelo and he understood that my health and long-term recovery from my disease must come first. Thank you for your understanding. I ask for your support and privacy during this difficult time for me and my family"
De La Hoya didn't specify exactly what he going to treatment for, but hopefully it's not anything hardcore. Mayweather defeated De La Hoya in 2007 in a close fight, which ended up being the biggest pay-per-view seller of all time at 2.4 million buys. The fight between De La Hoya's protégé Canelo and Mayweather is scheduled for September 14, 2013 on Pay-Per-View. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
