Though I'm not sure who exactly will be starting for the Ranger, reports point to 30-year old journeyman pitcher Ross Wolf. Wolf is looking for revenge against his former ball club, the Orioles. Though I'm not in love with a 90 mph fastball, and 85 mph change up, I do have Wolf playing well today against the team he was traded away from, if he does in fact start.
In 20 plus innings and 8 strikeouts, Wolf has shown brief flashes of greatness in several relief appearances for the Rangers.
For Baltimore, Wolf will be opposed by Orioles pitcher Wei-Yen Chen [3-3, 3.04 ERA]. Chen is making his first start since May 12th, after being on the 15 day disabled list with a strained right oblique. Is he what the doctor ordered for the Orioles pitching staff who has struggled all season for a consistent identity?
Though the Rangers are a good hitting ball club, against left-handed pitchers, they aren't so effective. They're number 10 in the American League with a .707 OPS, which is below average. The 27-year old Chen pitched well the first half of last season but started to fade around September.
Can the slumping Orioles offense find a way to hit against the veteran Wolf and the hard-hitting Rangers lineup. Tune in tonight at 7:05 pm ET to find out.
