‘Orange is the New Black’ Season 3 Release Date: Netflix New Season Packed With ‘Amazing Stories, Twists' Says Author

Piper Kerman, author of the memoir from which the hit TV series, 'Orange is the New Black', is based, recently revealed that Season 3 will be full of "really amazing stories and twists and turns."

During her talk at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, Kerman didn't spoil much about the new season of the prison drama, but she did say that fans will learn about the back stories of some of the characters. As it stands, Kerman serves as a consultant to the show.

Created by Jenji Kohan, 'Orange is the New Black' follows the story of a woman who was sent to a women's federal prison after she was caught carrying a suitcase full of drug money for her ex-girlfriend.

Kerman noted that faith will play a big part in the upcoming season, saying that Kohan is planning "an exploration of faith" for some of the characters.

Meanwhile, the author also discussed her feelings about the news that her former lover and friend Cleary Wolters had signed a book deal to narrate her own experiences in jail. The character of Alex Vause, played by actress Laura Prepon, is based on Wolters.

"I expect that my ex-lover's book will be a fascinating read," Kerman said, according to the Associated Press, "She's had a very different life, and her story is very different from mine."

Despite the positive reception she had gotten for her memoir and its Netflix adaptation, Kerman admitted that she would not have done the things she did when she was 22 year old. The author said her incarceration left her family and friends hurt, and if she could, she would grab any opportunity to make things right. Kerman is now an advocate for reforms in the criminal justice system.

Meanwhile, production for the show's Season 3 is already halfway through, according to Kerman, but there's no official word yet on the release date of the new season. Most believe though that the new season will be released early in 2015.
