'Orange is the New Black' Season 3 Cast News: 2015 Netflix Premiere, Marsha Blake Joins Women’s Prison
The popular comedy drama series 'Orange is the New Black' will be returning for a third season on Netflix sometime in the Summer of 2015, as fans are eager to know what they can expect in the new installment.
Season 3 of 'Orange Is The New Black' will be comprised of 14 episodes and the show creators have already released the titles of all the episodes, supercharging the anticipation of the fans.
A recent report by VC Post said that the 'Orange Is The New Black' showrunner and executive producer, Jenji Kohan, has revealed that the cast list of the female stars in the show, will be supplemented with more actresses.
The report cited that though Pablo Schreiber (Pornstache Mendez) has left the show to give way to a project with HBO, his character loss will eventually be replaced. Talking to TVLine recently, Schreiber revealed that his character's mother is set to make an appearance on the show in his stead.
The actor told the entertainment site, "But his mother is making an appearance on Season 3. Mary Steenburgen has been cast as my mom. I'm not sure what she'll do that will advance the Pornstache plotline, but for now, Mendez is in prison, biding his time. Spoiler alert."
Apart from Pornstache's mom, 'Django Unchained' actress Marsha Blake will join the women's federal prison, but not as a convicted criminal. She will portray the character of a correctional officer named "Berdie" Rogers. In fact, Blake herself revealed this on her social media profile when she posted an Instagram photo of her wearing a guard's uniform.
For now, it has been reported that six characters have been promoted to series regulars in the upcoming season. These characters include Gloria Mendoza (Selenis Leyva), Lorna Morello (Yael Stone), Poussey (Samira Wiley), Joe Caputo (Nick Sandow), Black Cindy (Adrienne Moore), and Alex Vause (Laura Prepon).
While, the episode titles offer a very vague idea on what fans should expect in the upcoming season, actress Laverne Cox revealed that 'Orange Is The New Black' Season 3 will be a mix of tragedy and comedy.
"We started shooting season three the first week of June. We should be done around the end of this year. It's amazing. I think more of [what we saw in season two], but what our show does so well is has a balance between the very serious and the comedic," Laverne told MTV.
