‘Orange is the New Black’ Season 3 Release Date, Plot Rumors: Alex and Piper to be Big Focus of New Season
"Orange is the New Black' continues to create buzz throughout the Internet as it chronicles the lives of imprisoned fictional women. The series is loosely based on the book of the same title which tells the real life story of Piper Kerman as she spent 15 months in prison. The hit Netflix comedy-drama series was rumored to be cancelled, but fans heaved a sigh of relief when this turned out to be a hoax.
Currently, the actors are filming the new season which is expected to be released in June 2015, and the 13-episode order came one month prior to season two's debut on Netflix. In an interview with Jason Biggs who plays Larry Bloom, he confidently stated that "Orange is the New Black' can continue for a long time in the future, and that show runner Jenji Kohan can steer the story in any direction that feels organic to the show.
"The truth is, they could stretch this thing for a long time. They could even switch the protagonist. Jenji's not afraid to do it. And the diversity of the cast is part of the reason the show is such a big hit," said Biggs.
Fans are also wondering whether "That 70's Show' alum Laura Prepon will come back to reprise her role as Alex Vause. It can be recalled that the first season focused mainly on the characters of Piper and Alex, but the second season showed only a limited number of appearances of Prepon's character.
As of April, it has been confirmed that Prepon will indeed return to the series as a regular character on Season 3.
In fact, it was Prepon herself who broke the news of "Orange is the New Black's renewal via a post on Instagram showing the titles of all episodes for the third season written on a dry-erase board.
"Orange is the New Black' has garnered 12 nominations at the Emmy Awards 2014, including Outstanding Comedy Series, and Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Taylor Schilling, who plays Piper Chapman.
