‘Orange is the New Black’ Season 3 Release Date, New Cast News: Marsha Blake, Mary Steenburgen Join Netflix Series
Fans of 'Orange is the New Black' can remember that in Season 2 two female inmates from Litchfield Penitentiary were on the run - cancer-stricken Rosa Cisneros and Vee Parker. This is evidently a bad break for the institution especially since Assistant Warden Joe Caputo is striving to effect new changes.
Due to these open-ended conclusions, Netflix's original series, based on Piper Kerman's novel, has cast new roles into Season 3. 'Django Unchained' star Marsha Blake is set to replace Porstanche (Pablo Schreiber) as a new correctional officer. Recapping Season 2, Pornstache was arrested after being maliciously blamed for impregnating an inmate.
When asked if his character will reappear in Season 3, Shreiber said "I'm a series regular now on a show called 'The Brink' on HBO. But [Pornstache's] mother is making an appearance on Season 3. Mary Steenburgen has been cast as my mom. I'm not sure what she'll do that will advance the Pornstache plotline, but for now, Mendez is in prison, biding his time. Spoiler alert!"
Also, Mike Birbiglia will be joining the cast of the show, but his role has not yet been disclosed to the public. While there are quite a few additions, Netflix confirmed that Dianne Guerrero who plays Maritza Ramos is taking an indefinite leave from the show. She is currently being cast on CW's 'Jane The Virgin'.
Taylor Schilling, Kate Mulgrew, Natasha Lyonne, Uzo Aduba, Samira Wiley, Taryn Manning, Laura Prepon are just a few among the previous casts who will return as series regulars.
'Orange is the New Black' Season 3 returns on Netflix in June 2015.
