Orange is the New Black Season 2 Release Date Spoilers: Netflix Rumors Hint at Piper, Alex and Larry Love Triangle Developments (Trailer Video)
Orange is the New Black will return for Season 2 on Netflix in spring 2014, and rumors about spoilers for the new season indicate that there will be significant shifts in the relationships of certain main characters, most notably protagonist Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), former lesbian lover Alex (Laura Prepon), and fiance Larry Bloom, played by Jason Biggs.
Sources say the new season, which will have a premiere release date of June 6, 2014, may dish out a test of character for both Larry and Piper, but series regulars claim the focus won't all be on them.
After the June 6 release date was revealed, certain actors revealed small bits of information and spoilers on what the new season might be like.
Jason Biggs has told Entertainment Weekly that Season 2 will find his character (Bloom) deciding between loyalty to Piper and acting on his own self-serving interests.
Biggs insinuates that he will end up choosing the latter, after having his heart crushed by Piper's behavior in prison. Prison for Piper created a big distance between the two in Season 1, with Piper failing to accurately convey what she was going through in prison, and Larry failing to understand and offer the necessary support as Piper underwent changes through her time behind bars.
Biggs explained: "But to what extreme, and how far should he take that exactly? Ultimately, he ends up taking advantage of Piper and the situation she's in, and becomes a little greedy and a little questionable."
Season 2 will see both Alex and Larry move on without Piper, leaving her alone and in a situation where she has to come to terms with herself and her actions. Both were messed around a lot by Piper as she flip-flopped between the two and struggled to cope with her emotions and experiences and the loneliness of being in prison.
At the end of Season 1 we watched Chapman ruthlessly beating Pennsatucky outside as the Christmas pageant went on inside. Chapman was going through a lot at that point, and Pennsatucky followed her outside to try and teach her a lesson. Despite Chapman's attempts at making the crazed-like inmate back down, Pennsatucky attacks her, forcing Chapman to defend herself. However, she loses it in a big way and ends up brutally beating Pennsatucky.
Creator Jenji Kohan has made the assertion that Chapman will not get off scott-free from her brutal approach.
While Piper Chapman and Larry Bloom will certainly be featured in the new season, most indications are pointing to a season where the focus will be shifted, in large part, to reveal the lives of other inmates instead of focusing on Piper as the main character alone.
Many fans will no doubt delight in seeing the stories of some of the series regulars whose backstories remained unexplored last year.
