'Orange is the New Black' Season 2 Release Date: Netflix Premiere Date Announced With New Teaser Trailer Video
The new season of "Orange is the New Black" is returning June 6, 2014. In a 15 second preview at the end of the last episode of House of Cards, Netflix has promised the returning cast of regulars for an all new season this spring, much to the pleasure of fans.
"Orange is the New Black" follows protagonist Piper Chapman (Taylor Shilling) as she adjusts to life in a woman's prison, carrying out a sentence for a crime she committed many years ago for a drug-smuggling woman she was involved in a bisexual relationship with. The woman, Alex Vause, played by Laura Prepon, is incarcerated at the same prison with the rest of the series regulars.
Prepon makes no appearance in the 15 second promo leading many to believe she may not be present in the second season. Fortunately, in an interview to US Weekly, creator Jenji Kohan has dispelled that claim: "Yes, yes, she is coming back," Kohan confirmed. "Not the whole season, but...you'll see her for most of it."
Other characters which are seen in the video include Red, who runs the prison's kitchen and is seen as a mother figure for many of the shows vulnerable female inmates, "Pornstache" Mendez, a correctional officer who abuses his power to coerce inmates into wrong activities and Crazy Eyes, a prisoner who is possibly insane and develops an obsession with Piper.
Season three may drift away slightly from its major focus on Piper's storyline, allowing more screen time to the stories of other prisoners.
