Oprah Winfrey takes America inside charismatic churches that deal with casting out demons on OWN's first episode of the final season of Lisa Ling's "Our America."

For the taping of "Fighting Against Satan," Ling visited churches in Georgia and Florida to observe the practice of the deliverance ministry. You can hear Ling say during the 30-second promotional video, "your talking about literal demons?"

During the clip, a voice is heard saying, "It's the most intoxicating ritual imaginable." People are shown weeping, screaming, falling to the ground possessed, while believers pray over them for freedom.

In the "Our America" episode a woman who received deliverance told the cameras, "they don't belong in me, they belong in the pit of hell." Another said "without deliverance I'd be dead today."

In Christianity, deliverance is the practice of casting out demons using the power of Christ in the name of Jesus and some times through prayer and fasting. The Bible says in Mark 16:17 "These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues."

According to the Journal of Christian Ministry, a survey of Christian exorcists found that any mature Christian could cast out devils, not just the head members of ministry. Christians most commonly believe the authority given to them by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is the source of their ability to cast out demons.

Throughout the Bible Jesus would cast out demons regularly. Matthew 8:28-34 describes one particular instance. "Two men who were demon-possessed met Him [Jesus] as they were coming out of the tombs"¦.they cried out, saying, "What business do we have with each other, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?' "¦ And He said to them, 'Go!' And they came out and went into the swine"¦"

The final season of Ling's "Our America" will feature 10 one-hour episodes. "Fighting Satan" airs Thursday, May 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on OWN.
