One Direction New Album Release Date: 'Four' Free Song 'Fireproof' Hits Record Downloads
Popular British boy band One Direction has finally announced the release date of their new album, Four, which will launch November 17, 2014.
The big news broke on Monday, and the album will be listed under Columbia Records. 1D went on to surprise their fans with the announcement, as well as a free download of their song, "Fireproof." However, the song giveaway only lasted 24 hours.
The band had this to say about Four, according to their official website, "We've worked incredibly hard writing and recording whilst we've been on the road, and we couldn't have done it without your support. As a special thank you for everything you guys have done for us we wanted to give you "Fireproof" - it's a track from the album, and you can get it for free right now.You'll be able to download it for free for the next 24 hours"
They went on to say, "We hope you enjoy it and we can't wait for you to listen to the album in full. Thank you, you guys mean the world to us."
Even though "Fireproof" is not the lead single on the album, the download of the song have exceeded 1.1 million in just 24 hours, Columbia Records told Billboard. On average, a typical free single of the week on U.S. iTunes gets approximately 300,000 downloads.
"Fireproof" was written by Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne. The song favors a relaxed tune with pretty harmonies instead of the upbeat hits like "What Makes You Beautiful."
In addition, 1.7 million tweets about "Fireproof" were reported by Twitter. The topic generated 5,369 tweets per minute at its highest point. All the social media posts catapulted the track to the top spot on the realtime Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart, where it remained on the top spot for eight hours.
Pre-orders quickly brought the new album at the Top Albums chart of iTunes. Four has already topped 67 of the country-specific lists on iTunes. The album's predecessor called, "Midnight Memories" was the best-selling album last year.
