The world can be a vulgar place sometimes. You experience it every day. There's garbage on the streets, smoking in public, and my personal pet peeve, people using vulgarities as if it were the Queen's English. I don't want to sound like some old fuddy duddy, but I was taught by my parents to have respect for myself and those around me. So I refrain from using vulgar language. I don't want to invade some else's space. But of course, that doesn't stop the people I encounter everyday from using language so coarse it makes me blush, and I'm an African-American so that was some pretty bad language.

Sometimes it's not the person themselves but rather their car stereo or ringtone. For example, I'm standing in line at the pharmacy and the woman behind phone's ringtone started blasting a song so offensive the cashier asked her to answer it or turn her ringer off. The woman was offended at being asked to turn off her offensive ringtone. I'm not sure but I think that's irony.

Listen, the point of this piece is to point out that coarse behavior more and more is becoming the norm. Values are sacrificed in an attempt to look cool or be perceived as not caring about what others think. Some common decency and respect for our fellow man has been lost. A generation of impressionable young people struggling to find their identity has, in my opinion, gravitated towards the negative influences in pop culture.
