'Oculus Rift' News: Apple Computers Don't Support VR Tech? Oculus Founder Says Mac Not 'Good Computer'

Oculus Rift founder Palmer Luckey recently drew a line in the sand and basically dismissed Apple's Mac as not "a good computer" that cannot support their VR tech.

However, Luckey said that they have no beef with Apple, but with the way the current computers are set up by the company, there's no way that Oculus Rift will partner with Tim Cook's tech behemoth.

In fact, he said that the ball is entirely in Apple's court.

"If they ever release a good computer, we will do it," he told Shack News. "It just boils down to the fact that Apple doesn't prioritize high-end GPUs."

The Oculus founder went on to add, "You can buy a $6,000 Mac Pro with the top of the line AMD FirePro D700, and it still doesn't match our recommended specs. So if they prioritize higher-end GPUs like they used to for a while back in the day, we'd love to support Mac. But right now, there's just not a single machine out there that supports it."

Nevertheless, those who want to buy Oculus Rift and don't own an Apple computer may order from the VR company's website as it's already commercially available.

The Next Web noted that even Windows users would be hard-pressed to afford the necessary specs to support Oculus Rift, so it's hardly a knock on the Apple Mac.

"According to Steam's recent Hardware Survey, only four percent of PC users have an Nvidia 970 to effectively run the Oculus," it said.
