NY Knicks Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Rejoining Knicks, Possibility of Pau Gasol as Teammate
Having finished all his free-agency visits to different teams, All-star forward Carmelo Anthony is taking the July 4 weekend off to think about his plans for the next season.
Everything that has happened in the past week all leads to speculation that Anthony will be signing again with the Knicks. However, the possibility that Anthony will join the Lakers remains viable.
Anthony's offer from the Knicks involves, a five-year maximum contract with a $129 million salary by the end. Other teams like the Lakers, Bulls, Rockets and Mavericks could only offer him a four-year maximum contract. While the Knicks offer seems like the probable take, Kobe Bryant is trying his best to entice Anthony into joining him on the Lakers.
Even with the stiffening competition coming from the Lakers, Knicks team president Phil Jackson is confident that Anthony will re-sign with them. The Knicks are having trouble with their salary cap, but it isn't stopping them from doing their best to acquire Anthony.
Just recently, Jackson traded center Tyson Chandler for point guard Jose Calderon. He is also trying to lure in Pau Gasol to play for their team with a smaller pay offer, but with taxpayer mid-level exception. Nevertheless, Gasol is reported to be interested in playing with Anthony.
Anthony however, doesn't want a repeat of the previous season where the Knicks did not make the playoffs when his team "crumbled" around him. Despite his sentiments, he might still play for the Knicks and if he is lucky, he might be playing with Gasol next season.
