NY Knicks NBA News, Rumors 2014: New York Facing Difficult Trade Decisions
As December approaches its final week and the New Year is coming fast, the NBA has started lining up trade prospects and player swap announcements. This is a bad time for New York as speculations say that the entire New York Knicks team, except for Carmelo Anthony, might be up for grabs.
New York's agent, Leon Rose, denies that the entire team will be traded away, but President Phil Jackson has hinted that he is looking to trade the players that have had poor performance this season. Last Tuesday night, the Knicks fell to 5-22, continuing their worst start in history. Even though Anthony led all players in a remarkable comeback, scoring 26 points, New York was unable to overcome the huge gap from the first quarter.
Despite Rose's claims, Knicks fans are speculating about some potential trade options. J.R. Smith, 29, is very likely to be let go after a hard season averaging 14.5 points per game. Typically, Smith averages 18.1 points per game, a career-high.
Amar'e Stoudemire is also facing the ax, as this is the forward's last year in his contract. On that note, the 32-year-old player averages 13.4 points per game.
On the other hand, ESPN's Marc Stein reported that New York is actively looking for replacements. It is no secret that the Knicks have had their eye on the famous Rajon Rondo from the Celtics since they lost their opportunity eight years ago. Unfortunately for the New York Knicks, Rondo signed with the Dallas Mavericks on December 18th. Once again, the Knicks are back to the drawing board.
Evidently, it will be a hard season for everyone on the Knicks this year.
