Nokia Lumia 1020 Successor Release Date, Specs: Microsoft Set to Launch New Lumia Smartphone After Bad Reviews

Microsoft has disclosed its plans to launch their newest addition to Nokia Lumia series after receiving negative feedback for the Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone from both consumers and gadget review websites.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 provided a unique selling point when it first went out the market in July 26 the previous year. As opposed to camera phones offered by competitors, the Nokia Lumia 1020 features a 41MP camera, which could capture images with 7152x5368 pixels. It has Carl Zeiss optics, which is used by most photo enthusiasts all over the world for optical image stabilization.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is said to shoot better than the Apple iPhone 5S, Nokia 925 and even HTC One while the camera is better than most Android and iOS handset sensors.

The gadget review website, however, pointed out that iPhone 5S has more applications and is therefore more user-friendly. Aside from the camera, the Nokia phone allegedly does not perform on par with its Apple counterpart.

Hallels said that Nokia Lumia 1020 pales in comparison to HTC One M8. HTC One M8 has a Quad-Core 2.3 GHz processor Krait 400, while Nokia Lumia 1020 only has Dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU. The amount of RAM is only the same for both devices at 2GB.

The Lumia 1020 is at an advantage when it comes to shooting, as HTC One M8 only has a 4MP rear facing camera and a camera sensor. Another difference between the two is their operating systems. While HTC uses Android OS, v4.4.2 (KitKat), upgradable to v4.4.3 (KitKat), Nokia Lumia 1020 is running on Microsoft Windows 8, upgradeable to 8.1

Despite its camera being impressive, the Nokia phone is already nearing the end of its life, according to KpopStarz. On that note. the phone phased out from the market as early as Sept. 5.

Microsoft is now considering the production of "high-power camera phones," according to TechRadar, another gadget review site.

The report was confirmed by Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of the Phones Business Unit Jo Harlow.

"We continue to invest in the area to bring the next greatest thing in high-end imaging," said Harlow, in response to doubts concerning Microsoft's ability to innovate the Lumia.
