Nightcrawler Release Date News: Jake Gyllenhaal Talks Louis Bloom in 'Nightcrawler', Says 'The Feeling I Wanted was the Hunger'
Before the upcoming film 'Nightcrawler' debuts in theaters on October 31, 2014, the star of the movie Jake Gyllenhaal went ahead and dished out the scoop about his portrayal of Louis Bloom.
The 'Brokeback Mountain' actor revealed what he has gone through to materialize the director, Dan Gilroy's, vision of 'Nightcrawler'."
Jake Gyllenhaal plays Louis Bloom, an apathetic cameraman-turned-crime-chasing journalist who goes far beyond a cameraman's job description by chasing the latest scoop himself by documenting gruesome accidents and shootings for compelling TV news footage.
Gyllenhaal reportedly had to "thin down" for his role and even shared a moment last year where he drank water with lemon just to curb his appetite before a shoot.
"We're talking, movie hard. I wanted to commit to it. When I believe in a character, I'll go there. I did hurt myself by mistake, not on purpose -- I hurt my hand in a scene. That was by mistake," Gyllenhaal said on an interview with USA Today.
"When we talk about losing weight, it's for a finite amount of time. That's why I say it's movie hard. You're not going to be Lou Bloom for the rest of your life. The feeling I wanted was the hunger. I wanted that irritability. I wanted that feeling that you're pushing yourself," he continued.
Meanwhile, the Oscar-nominated actor attended the preview screening of 'Nightcrawler' at the AMC Loews Boston Common last Saturday, Oct. 25 and further explained,
"Acting is an incredibly immature and selfish profession, but I also believe on the flip side of that coin, it can also produce great empathy," Jake said at a recent panel.
"Understand that it is an extraordinarily sensitive job, and I don't mean to be self-indulgent, but it's an odd job. It's an odd thing conjuring up feelings in the midst of all this chaos...it's magic," Gyllenhaal said.
'Nightcrawler' hits the big screen on Oct. 31
