NFL Hall of Fame 2014 Inductees News: Michael Strahan Humbled to Join Legendary Class After Career With New York Giants (VIDEO)
'GMA' and 'Live with Kelly and Michael' co-host Michael Strahan is still amazed that he will be added to this year's NFL Hall of Fame class on Saturday, thanks to his legendary career with the New York Giants.
"It's one of those things where I was like, 'Oh my God, I can't believe it,' " said Strahan to PEOPLE Magazine, "It was actually very amazing and very scary at the same time."
The former 'Big Blue' defensive end also talked about what he expects to say when he makes his much anticipated speech in Canton, Ohio.
"I want to kind of go up there and be free and not worry about giving the speech of a lifetime," said Strahan, "I think a lot of guys sit and write and write and write because everyone tries to outdo the other with the speeches. I don't care for that. I just want to make sure I thank the right people, make sure we all have a good time."
The 'Fox NFL Sunday' analyst also reflected on playing in the NFL for 15 years, and how that fear of failure still propels him to be one of the best TV personalities in the world today.
"I was scared every time I put on a uniform and stepped on the field. I'm scared every day I go into the studio and I come on stage because I fear that I will not live up to what is expected. I fear that somebody who spent a lot of money to come into our studio, to come to New York and they'll walk away and go, 'I could have stayed at home.' I feared that as a player a fan would come to the stands and I wouldn't perform well. Just the way I'm built. I'm more scared of failure than I am excited about the accolades that come with success," said Strahan in the 2013 movie entitled 'A Football Life' created by NFL Films.
The seven time Pro-Bowler won his only championship ring of his career when his Giants squad upset the previously undefeated (18-0) New England Patriots team by 17-14 at Super Bowl XLII on February 3, 2008.
"Fortunately we made the decision to keep him, because we don't win Super Bowl XLII without him," said Giants co-owner John Mara, according to New York Daily News, "And those (bad) moments were few and far between when you look at the entirety of his 15-year career. I'll take 15 more like them."
The 2014 NFL Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony takes place on Saturday August 2, 2014 at 7pm at the Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
