Nexus 9 Release Date: HTC ‘Volantis’ to Arrive Q4 2014? To Run on nVidia Tegra K1
Google Nexus 9, possibly the last of the Nexus series, could be hitting the market in the last quarter of 2014, though developers have yet to confirm an exact release date. Google's new tablet will be catered to by HTC, and the device is likely to be released alongside Android L.
When Nexus 9 did not arrive at the Google I/O Conference last June, speculation suggested that the successor to Nexus 7 might be unveiled at HTC's Double Exposure event on October 8 in New York City. This is due to the fact that Google is halting its release of Nexus devices following the intended launch of Android Silver next year.
According to Android Police, firmware company nVidia confirmed in a legal document leaked online that Nexus 9 is expected to carry Logan Tegra K1 64-bit processor. Also known as Volantis, the device features 8.9-inch display with 1920 x 1280 full HD graphics and 2 GB RAM.
Google's Volantis is also rumored to feature an 8-megapixel rear shooter with optical image stabilizer coupled with a 3-megapixel front camera. Compared to Nexus 7, Nexus 9 is also thinner at 7.87 millimeters and is approximately 418 grams in weight.
Prices pegged for Nexus 9 at $399 while the 32 GB edition will be at $499 (LTE capability), reported PC Advisor UK. However, it is not certain if Volantis will also feature an expandable microSD slot. Another notable addition is the possibility of a Bluetooth keyboard and an inclusion of 100 GB space via Google Drive- free for two years.
HTC is also expected to unveil two of its upcoming devices at Double Exposure - the HTC One M8 Eye, a standalone camera, and HTC Eye smartphone.
