Nexus 6 Release Date, Specs Rumors: Motorola’s 'Shamu' is Nexus 6? Launch Expected Late 2014
Several reports suggest that the Google Nexus 6 may be released during the end of Q4 2014, and that the upcoming smartphone may be manufactured by Motorola.
Google has been keeping up the practice of releasing a new Nexus smartphone every year since the first was launched in 2010, however as September nears, there's no word of a new Nexus.
Nevertheless, many tech enthusiasts are of the view that this practice is likely to change this time. Looking back at the dates of previous Nexus releases, analysts notice a pattern, and if the same pattern regarding Nexus releases continues in 2014, fans of Google Nexus can expect the release of the Nexus 6 device sometime during the end of the year, possibly late in Q4.
Apart from the fact that Google senior vice-president Sundar Pichai announced that Nexus 6 would not be launched during the first half of 2014, there has hardly been any official communique regarding the upcoming device.
Pichai's comments as well as the latest news on the Web regarding the release of the Nexus 6 actually indicate that the device may be available during the fourth quarter of 2014.
According to some rumors, the device will be available sometime late in October or during the first half of November 2014, so that it is available on the market during the Christmas holiday shopping period. These rumors also tout that Google will be launching the Android L, its latest operating system, also known as Lollipop, around the same time.
On the contrary, there have been some reports that claim that Google will not continue with the Nexus line. These reports further suggest that instead of continuing with the Nexus line, Google will upgrade the line to a latest series of Android Silver phones, which will possibly aim to promote the use of superior quality materials and further trendy designs that "closely adhere to Google specifications."
However, TechRadar reports that Dave Bruke, Android's head of engineering, has confirmed that Google is still "invested in Nexus." According to the report, the Nexus 6 may possibly be the first device to run the Android L. In fact, whenever Google launches a new major version of its software it usually offers up some hardware too.
The Korean tech firm LG was tapped for a third term when manufacturing Google's Nexus 5 smartphone. While the Nexus 5 resembled the LG G2, some sources say that the Nexus 6 will apparently be based on the LG G3. However, since LG has denied its involvement with Nexus 6, speculations are high as to who will make the latest device from Google's stable.
Some are of the view that Motorola may be coming out with the Nexus 6, as rumors of a handset codenamed "Shamu" have emerged. If this is true, the Nexus 6 might prove to be a real marvel. The Motorola Shamu, which many believe is the Nexus 6, appeared on GFXBench. So far, it has only completed a single test, but alongside the results you can see that it has a 2.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor and 3GB of RAM, would make it a match for any other smartphone out there.
